Former lead guitarist for The Nazz and solo artist Todd Rundgren — known for hits like “Can We Still Be Friends,” “Hello, It’s Me,”and the infectiously annoying novelty tune, “Bang on the Drum All Day” — covered the theme song for last night’s Squidbillies episode, “Taint Misbehavin’.”
Breaking away from basically any resemblance of the original, Rundgren gives the now-classic TV tune the electronic, glitchy treatment. It’s, well … interesting, I suppose. The Cuyler clan has had quite a few well-known artists cover their anthem at this point, but Rundgren is probably the most old school and biggest contributor yet.
Sadly, now that the show is more popular than ever and can attract some pretty big names, the quality of each episode seems to be declining. Hopefully it picks up, but so far it’s almost as disappointing as season four of The Boondocks.
Who am I kidding? I’m pretty sure I will never be let down by a TV show again in my life to the extent that I was with The Boondocks — not Dexter, The Walking Dead or even The Sopranos were as much of a bummer. What an utter travesty that once-beautiful show turned into. With McGruder out of the picture it was bound to be different, I got that, but the show in season four became a shell of its former self — essentially unrecognizable.
God, I get annoyed just thinking about it! See, now I’m upset. Great, just great. I’ve been meaning to rant a bit about the decline of The Boondocks for a while now, but avoided it for reasons like this. I suppose it was a bit cathartic to get it out. Now I can finally move on with my pathetic life.
