These guys have been around for nearly 20 years at this point, but for whatever reason I just never really listened to them. I think I kinda lumped ’em in with those emo bands from the late-’90s/early-’00s (Saves the Day, Hot Rod Circuit, etc.), but upon finally listening I now realize how very wrong I was. If you’re into melodic post-rock stuff like Low or June of ’44, give this tune a spin.
Shipping News formed in 1996 as a result of former Rodan bandmates Jeff Mueller and Jason Noble writing and recording music for the NPR program This American Life. Inspired by their work for NPR, Mueller and Noble formulated the idea for a new band. After adding drummer Kyle Crabtree in 1997, Shipping News were complete.
