Someone sent me this a while back (it may actually have been the band, I forget), and, to be quite honest, I thought it was gonna be downright awful. However, I am happy to report that I was very wrong — as I often am when I pre-judge — and this tune is pretty damn catchy. The verse has a later-era Samiam-esque style, while the chorus touches on more of a early ’00s emo vibe — the good stuff.
Stick around for the bonus twerking video at the end, featuring the sexiest penguin you ever will see! Not really, but it’s kinda funny. Shut up and watch the damn video…
Melodic ’90s-influenced rock band Diamond Youth formed in 2010 around vocalist/guitarist Justin Gilman, guitarist Sam Trapkin, bassist Daniel Fang, and drummer Brendan Yates. With bandmates based in several cities including Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles, the quartet recorded many of their songs over the Internet via iChat and using GarageBand. Under the moniker Diamond, the band released its debut EP, Don’t Lose Your Cool, in 2011. In 2013, the newly christened Diamond Youth returned with a second EP, Orange, followed by the Shake EP in early 2014.
