There has been a bit of a brouhaha going off in the football world for the last few days. Ever since Michael Sam, a prospective NFL draft pick and college football star, announced that he is gay, there’s been outpourings of both support and negativity.
Apparently, if drafted, Sam would be the first and only openly gay player in the NFL. For some reason this a huge deal in the football community, but I don’t really get it. Coaches and players alike have said that having a gay man in the locker room would make them feel uncomfortable — it’s a man’s environment, after all.
What? Y’all slap each others’ asses and engage in some borderline homosexual activities as is. And given the statistics, you most likely have a few closeted gay guys on the roster already. I think you and your $50 million dollar contracts will survive.
This video is rather refreshing though. Dallas sportscaster, Dale Hansen — who is known to be somewhat aggressive and gruff at times — spoke out in defense of the young football star this past Sunday during his show, Dale Hansen Unplugged.
