So I was fryin’ up some chicken cutlets last night and decided to play the most recent episode of WTF – comedian Marc Maron’s now renowned podcast, for those unfamiliar – while I cooked my rather generic supper, and this unkown-to-me comedienne, Ms. Pat was his guest. I find some of his most engaging interviews to be with people I don’t know much about or even dislike to be among his most interesting sometimes – Ms. Pat’s was definitely a great example of this.
She comes to WTF with an amazingly sad, yet eventually inspiring life story – narratives filled with child molestation, teen pregnancy, drug dealing and serious violence. Yet Ms. Pat makes these trying tragedies funny and somehow shapes her plight in a way that makes it almost impossible to not laugh at. Comedy is brutally beautiful sometimes.
This short stand-up set is from a year or so ago at Morty’s Comedy Joint in Indiana, and Ms. Pat kills it throughout her brief 10-minute appearance.
As usual, Maron conducts a deep, greatly personal interview, so I’ll include that at the bottom here as well. If you’re viewing this on the homepage, make sure to take the plunge to check out that WTF session.
