See, now this is a prime example of how the internet has completely changed the music industry in the most positive way possible. If it weren’t for me searching out a song by the Montreal-based indie-pop band Young Galaxy — and accidentally leaving out the “o” — I most likely would have never even heard of these guys.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times that this almost exact same situation has played itself out for me in recent years, and especially since I started writing for SOAO and doing the “Daily Ditty.”
If this was even 10 or 15 years ago, YUNG would just be another unknown band from Denmark, fated to live out their days in relative obscurity — the rest of the world would’ve probably been left out.
What’s now amazing, is that we have an atmosphere that is absolutely stellar for independant new bands — bright as could be — and one that has completely usurped the old guard; all of these artists and groups from essentially every inch of the globe can just upload their material and allow people to discover it on a plethora of platforms. These are interesting times we live in. Wonderfully interesting times indeed, my friends.
It’s actually kinda hard to describe these guys really. This tune is a bit poppy, a bit shoegazer-ish — even somewhat punk. I don’t know, whatever — I hate categorizing music. The issue at hand is that it’s really cool stuff, and I’m happy to have stumbled upon them.
