Man, I haven’t listened to these guys in years — three chords in and I immediately remembered how goddamn brilliant they were. Or are, they still tour every now and again.
Easily one of the most underappreciated punk (I really hate putting them into a specific genre) bands of all time, Leatherface paved the way for groups like Hot Water Music and Dillinger Four who have become rather successful since struggling through the early days of punk-meets-indie-rock-meets-hardcore-meets-emo or whatever the hell was happening in the mid/late ’90s. I was there and played in these types of bands, and I still don’t know exactly what to call it.
While they are definitely a bit more raw than the aforementioned outfits, Leatherface is still very approachable, so give “Springtime” a spin and check out some more of their stuff if you’re diggin’ it.
