I have had this bookmarked for the “Daily Ditty” for quite some time now, but for whatever reason I allowed it to get lost in the mix. I just came across it today while cleaning up my desktop and upon rewatching/listening I remembered how much this video blew me away the first time I gave it a spin. Not only is it a chilled-out, feel-good tune, but the video itself is such a simplistically genius idea.
Kawehi is a talented young lady who originally hailed from Honolulu, Hawaii and now calls the plains of Lawrence, Kansas home — interesting transition, I’m sure…
Confusing relocations aside, Kawehi produces some cool tunes and sculpts her music using several instruments and methods including beatboxing, synths and guitars. This tune, however, was created entirely by using both natural and synthesized versions of her voice, and is the first single off of her recently released EP, Robot Heart.
She does some really unique covers as well, like “Closer” by NIN and absolutely kills the Radiohead classic, “Fake Plastic Trees.” So, if you like this song, head on over to her YouTube channel or Vimeo channel and check out some more of Kawehi’s material.
