Producer Adi Shankar (The Grey, A Walk Among The Tombstones, Dredd) teamed up with Director Joseph Khan (Detention, Torque) to create this 14-minute short film, POWER/RANGERS. It’s a modern day, post-apocalyptic future starring James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) as Rocky and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as Kimberly.
In this dark version, the Rangers are all grown up. In a high-tech interrogation room, we see Rocky with a partial robotic leg, questioning Kimberly. There’s only one goal Rocky has: to find Tommy. Why? He believes Tommy is the one responsible for killing each of the Rangers.
Is Rocky correct to assume Tommy is killing the Rangers? Is Tommy dead or alive? What about Kimberly?
**Note: There’s some foul language and some blood in the short film. **
Why Bootleg The Power Rangers?
If you’re wondering why this bootleg short film exists, Adi Shankar answers that question in this video explaining his two favorite TV shows growing up.
When I was a child I had two favorite TV shows the X-Men animated series and Power Rangers. I eventually came to the realization that high school kids weaponized to fight an intergalactic threat would turn those kids into some seriously disturbed adults.
