I’m not posting this to spark some political debate or something — we try not to do that here on SOAO — but rather just to show the human side of cops and how I am sure many officers feel after they have taken someone’s life.
The amount of raw emotion this man (he ceases to be a cop at this moment, and is simply a human being) expresses is heartbreaking, and shows that perhaps not every police officer out there is some trigger-happy murderer.
I have had quite a few run-ins with the law over the years (just stupid stuff, I swear, Mom) and have certainly encountered some shitty, power-tripping cops with a chip on their shoulder just looking to bust balls for basically no reason. I have also had the pleasure of meeting great cops who are really out there putting their lives on the line — for very little pay — to protect and serve the public. The latter greatly outweighs the former in my experience — I’m also not black.
I do, however, wholeheartedly concede that we have serious issues to deal with regarding our justice system, but the problem — in my opinion — is intrinsically a people one. More specifically, the personality types that gravitate towards such positions of power and our lack of ability to weed out those who display borderline narcissistic sociopath traits. But hey, that’s just me talking.
OK, so I did get a bit political … whatever, wanna fight about it!?
