Photograph by @thomaspeschak The African penguin is the only species of penguin that breeds on the African continent and has its home on the South African coast. This endangered bird nests on 24 islands and 3 mainland colonies in Southern Africa. Like many seabirds, penguins are perfectly streamlined for speed to catch quick prey like sardines and squid. They are famously more cumbersome on land. This industrious shuffle and their tuxedo like feathers make them one of the most unique wildlife encounters on the continent.
