Some of us here in the U.S. may have never even heard of Paddington Bear, but almost everyone in Britain younger than 70-years-old grew up with the lovable, fuzzy character. Created in 1958 by Michael Bond (author) and Peggy Fortnum (illustrator), Paddington went on to become a cultural phenomenon in England and throughout the world, really.
As an American who grew up with Paddington and his human family, the Browns, I’m not sure how I feel about a live-action film adaptation. The Brits may be all for it, but I have yet to speak with an English friend who really cares either way.
The fact of the matter is that most of the time these things fall utterly flat, so my expectations here are not very high at all. But it does look like it might produce a few giggles, so I’ll keep an eye out should it eventually come to Netflix.
There’s two videos here. The first is a short featurette with Nicole Kidman (I had no idea she was British) that gets into the making of Paddington, while the second video is the original trailer that was released back in June of this year. If you’re on the homepage and wish to see the trailer, be sure to take the plunge.
Paddington hits theaters in the U.K. on November 28th, 2014, and then it looks to be heading across the pond in 2015.
