“…you want to end up like Jeff Gordon?”
Allow me to preface this post right off-the-bat: I basically know nothing about League Of Legends, nor do I care to, really. I realize it’s some fantasy role playing game that is hugely popular, and has become a worldwide phenomenon. It was even featured in a documentary on HBO’s Real Sports. What? Yes, “Real Sports”… I am not even sure where to begin with that, so I just won’t.
Be you a gamer who loves LoL, or simply a King Of The Hill fan, you will enjoy this short video.
The most brilliant idiot.
When in need of some comic relief or a pro-atheist/anti-religion joke, Ricky Gervais is nothing but a quick Twitter search away. He has always made me laugh at the ridiculousness of life ever since his original breakout; The Office. But, to be quite honest, I was never a big fan of the U.K. version, and the U.S. one just makes me cringe as it also brings up old memories I feel need to be forgotten.
Derek is something so entirely different, yet still a bit the same as it were. Shot and portrayed in the familiar “documentary” style as The Office, Gervais now plays a golden-hearted, adorable doofus endowed with physical characteristics akin to Quasimodo. It’s a comedy that really isn’t that funny, and a drama that doesn’t take itself too seriously. That odd concoction is actually what makes it work so well.
I can honestly say that Derek is the best thing that both he and Netflix have ever done — in my opinion anyway. And this is coming from a staunch Arrested Development fan, as well as a lover of House Of Cards.
I just see so much potential here. Gervais has truly shined through and showed his amazing acting prowess. I don’t think it will get canceled, but if it does it will be up there on my list of “Could Have/Should Haves” in quiet company along with Huff, Carnivàle, Men Of A Certain Age and Deadwood.
If you have Netflix, do yourself a favor and check this out. The entire first season is now streaming for you to view at your leisure.
