Biologists and conservationists on the West Coast of the US are in a dilly of a pickle it seems. Due to the invasive barred owl, the endangered spotted owl is losing its territory and being threatened with extinction.
This is where the moral dilemma comes in: do we, as humans, take it upon ourselves and kill one species to save another? It is a tough question, and I can see where there would be some trepidation on the part of someone whose life and career is so heavily invested in conserving the existence of animals.
In this video, wildlife biologist Lowell Diller shows us the owls’ habitats and talks about the moral conundrum he faces in order to save the spotted owl.
