You’ve probably seen your friends or family members using hashtags in their status. Maybe you found the hashtags annoying, or even thought, “This is not Twitter!”
Well, it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Facebook announced in a blog post today that they are rolling out hashtags. Why? With thousands of interactions happening, “to date, there has not been a simple way to see the larger view of what’s happening or what people are talking about.”
According to their blog post:
Starting today, hashtags will be clickable on Facebook. Similar to other services like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest, hashtags on Facebook allow you to add context to a post or indicate that it is part of a larger discussion. When you click on a hashtag in Facebook, you’ll see a feed of what other people and Pages are saying about that event or topic.
So in coming weeks, expect to see clickable hashtags in status updates as well as photos.
