As of this last Monday, Canada stopped the distribution of their penny. And it makes total sense. (get it?) BA-Doom-Cha! No? I’ll just see myself out…
How this hasn’t happened in most countries by this point is a bit baffling. Not only has it been useless as a denomination for many years, but certain pennies — 1982 and earlier in the U.S., 1996 and earlier in Canada — with higher copper content are actually worth more than the actual penny represents!
So are our brothers and sisters to the north going to be getting ripped off and cheated? Will they have to rise up against the proletariat in the hopes to save their beloved and
precious useless coins? No.
It’s a bit confusing at first, but basically, because there will still be the nickel, the average rounding is zero.
For example: .01 and .02 get rounded to .00 while .03 and .04 get rounded up to .05. Then, .06, .07 are rounded down to .05 while .08 and .09 are rounded to .00.
Get it? No harm , no foul really.
I think most Americans would agree this needs to happen here. Besides just being annoying, they are a total waste of time and resources that could be dedicated to something more important. Perhaps working on that Death Star we talked about a bit ago, Obama? Or did you conveniently forget?
