Seth Boyden’s thesis film at the California Institute Of The Arts is about a rock’s life throughout history. In the animated short film, An Object At Rest, we meet a mountain that decides to take a nap. During its hibernation, the mountain sleeps through the age of the dinosaurs, the ice age and is transformed to a boulder. Its rest is interrupted by civilization and becomes agitated.
As societies form, wars take place, population grows, and urban cities develop, the rock is constantly interrupted and unable to get any rest. Soon, the rock finds itself in space. Does it finally get some rest or it is on a never ending path of constant interruptions?
