CineFix is back with a new edition of their Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About series. This installment takes on the immensely popular movie and book franchise, The Hunger Games.
I have no interest in any of this, but I know some of you good folks love it and the internet — reddit specifically — has a
somewhat unhealthy, borderline creepy obsession with Jennifer Lawrence, so here ya go!
Seriously though, I just do not get the whole Jennifer Lawrence thing. While we’re on the topic, I don’t understand the incredible obsession with Emma Watson either. Both are beautiful, talented young women, but the amount of culty-creep-love they receive on the internet is just beyond me.
May the death threats commence…
I can say with 100% honesty — may I live in an afterlife sans women, music, booze, drugs and delicious food — that I once composed basically the same statement mentioned above on reddit a year or so ago and my inbox was immediately bombarded with people who were telling me to kill myself and insultingly saying that I was a “special snowflake” (I already thought I was…) simply because I didn’t agree with what and who they found entertaining and/or attractive.
As amazing as reddit can be — the unabashed, selfless humanitarianism that normally flows — it still gets super-creepy and the negative hive mind tends to overwhelm and take over everyone’s thoughts at times there.
If I had the resources, time and money, I would love to do a long-term social and psychological study into that part of internet culture (the armchair warriors who would never say the things they utter if and when they were face-to-face with an actual human) — reddit being the absolute best subject to pick from nowadays, given how insanely popular and diverse their demographic has become in the last few years.
