Amazon, the once small online bookseller is now a giant empire for electronics, movies, groceries and cloud hosting services. There were a few hiccups for Amazon and it wasn’t always sunshine and roses. In 2010, a CD was accidentally listed with a price of $2,904,980 plus $3.99 shipping and handling. And in January 2012, their site was down for 49 minutes which resulted in $5.7 million lost in sales.
Amazon has also been criticized for their treatment of employees. Warehouse workers, for example, are monitored by GPS tracking systems. If they’re talking too long to coworkers, they receive a warning. Toilet breaks are also timed and reprimanded if they go too often.
