In the ’80s, My Little Pony was one of a few popular TV shows targeted towards young females. Anyone who remembers that show, will remember it was all light-hearted and “cutesy.”
In 2010 for the My Little Pony come back, Hasbro hired Lauren Faust, who animated The Powerpuff Girls, and she re-imagined it differently, breaking the typical stereotypes tied in with cartoons for girls.
While the target market were a young, female audience, “bronies,” the male fan-base was on the rise.
