Since coming out in 1983, Mario Bros. has become one of many memorable classic games. Initially, Nintendo wanted to create a Popeye game, but they couldn’t get the licensing for it, so they created Mario. And those red mushrooms in Super Mario Bros. actually exist. They’re known as “fly agaric” or “fly amanita”. It’s hallucinogenic properties, although poisonous, can make things appear bigger or smaller than they really are (sounds just like Alice In Wonderland, doesn’t it?)
Another interesting fact, Mario was originally named as “Jumpman” and was a carpenter. He was renamed to Mario, inspired by Nintendo’s landlord in the USA, Mario Segale. And there’s also a theory that Mario is a mass murderer. To find out more, check out the video below.
